Key Milestones

  • 2008: First high-speed line opened (Beijing-Tianjin)
  • 2010: Internet users exceeded 450 million

Internet & Telecom

China had virtually no internet users in 2000. By 2024, 1.1 billion people are online (73% of population). Mobile internet dominates — over 99% of users access via smartphone. E-commerce, mobile payments (Alipay, WeChat Pay), and short video (Douyin/TikTok) transformed daily life.
